SUMMIT 2016 in Cebu
Summit on RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654 towards sustainable fisheries management.
Republic Act 10654, an act to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUUF), amended RA 8550, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998. It became a law in February this year.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Region 7 highlighted the Summit on RA 10654 as amended by RA 8550 towards sustainable fisheries management which was conducted last February 24, 2016 at Metropolitan Cebu Water District.
The ceremony was grace by the BFAR Undersecretary and National Director ASIS G. PEREZ with the Regional Director Andres M. Bojos. It was also participated by various stakeholders from Cebu and Bohol Province.
In this summit, BFAR-7 launched an all-out information drive wherein the tri-media will take a huge part in effectively carrying information.
Nevertheless, BFAR-7 convened and oriented the various stakeholders including the Commercial Fishing Vessel Operators, the Fishpond Operators, the Local Government Officials, C/MFARMC, the Academe and the Media Practitioners within the region regarding RA 10654 as amended RA 8550.
BFAR-7 also take this opportunity to clear misconceptions and to accurately inform the sector as well as the general public about the said Law.
As we pursue our mission to prevent and eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in the country, we at BFAR-7 will work hand in hand, step by step and slowly but surely to protect the marine and aquatic resources, Director Andres M. Bojos said.
